Surface Preparation
S&R Flooring is the leading contractor in the screed, resin and waterproofing floor, wall and ceiling market, covering areas throughout the UK carrying out
specialised industrial surface:
Shot-blasting with all industry standard dust suppression – using internal fans to propel shots at the substrate. Leaving a clean surface.
Planetary diamond grinding – with the use of PCD’s in variable grades for different subbase preparation requirements.
Planing – for removal of subsurface from 1 to 10mm per pass for projects where subsurface or existing failed surfaces need removal as a whole to then start again.

We aim to give our clients the best results possible from each method of floor preparation. Suitable for substrates that need to be prepared for resin floors, latex, screeds many more floor finishes.
Why is surface preparation crucial for resin floors?

Adhesion: Resin flooring relies on strong adhesion to the substrate to ensure its durability and longevity. Proper surface preparation creates a clean, textured, and porous surface, allowing the resin to bond effectively and securely to the substrate. This ensures that the resin floor remains firmly in place and minimises the risk of delamination or peeling.

Levelling and Smoothing: Surface preparation helps to level uneven or rough substrates, providing a smooth and even base for the resin floor. It helps to eliminate imperfections such as cracks, pits, or bumps, creating a seamless and visually appealing surface. By creating a flat and uniform substrate, surface preparation enhances the aesthetics and functionality of the resin floor.

Contaminant Removal: Surface preparation removes any contaminants, such as dirt, dust, grease, oil, or old coatings, from the substrate. These contaminants can hinder the adhesion of the resin and compromise the overall performance of the flooring system. Proper cleaning, shot-blasting, or grinding ensures a clean and uncontaminated substrate, allowing the resin to adhere effectively.

Moisture Mitigation: Surface preparation techniques like shot-blasting or grinding can help address moisture-related issues. Moisture vapour can travel through the substrate and cause problems for resin floors, such as blistering, delamination, or reduced adhesion. By preparing the surface and addressing moisture concerns, such as moisture barriers or primers, the risk of moisture-related problems can be minimised.

Durability and Performance: Properly prepared substrates provide a stable foundation for the resin flooring system. The adhesion and levelness achieved through surface preparation contribute to the durability and performance of the resin floor. It helps to prevent issues like cracking, chipping, or premature wear, ensuring that the flooring system maintains its quality and functionality over time.

In summary, surface preparation is essential for resin floors to ensure strong adhesion, levelness, contaminant removal, moisture mitigation, and overall durability and performance of the flooring system. It enhances the longevity and aesthetics of the resin floor, providing a reliable and high-quality flooring solution.

S&R Flooring, a leading contractor in the screed, resin, and waterproofing flooring industry, operates throughout the UK, offering specialised surface preparation services for floors, walls, and ceilings. Our comprehensive range of techniques ensures optimal results for various substrates, including those requiring preparation for resin floors, latex, screeds, and other floor finishes.

Our surface preparation methods include:

Shot-blasting: We employ industry-standard dust suppression measures, utilising internal fans to propel shots at the substrate. This process effectively removes contaminants and leaves a clean surface, ready for further treatment.

Planetary diamond grinding: Using variable-grade PCDs (polycrystalline diamonds), we carry out diamond grinding to meet diverse sub base preparation requirements. This technique ensures precise and tailored preparation for each project.

Planing: When subsurface or existing failed surfaces need complete removal, we offer planing services. With our specialised equipment, we can remove subsurface material ranging from 1 to 10mm per pass. This approach allows us to create a fresh starting point for subsequent flooring applications.

At S&R Flooring, our primary goal is to deliver exceptional results for our clients through the use of these advanced floor preparation methods. Our services cater to a wide range of substrates, enabling us to prepare surfaces for resin floors, latex coatings, screeds, and various other floor finishes.
