Resin floor problems and how to fix them

Common issues with resin floors and how to fix them.

Common problems that can occur with resin floors include:
Discoloration or Yellowing: Resin floors may experience discoloration or yellowing over time due to UV exposure or chemical reactions. This can affect the appearance of the floor.

Delamination: Delamination refers to the separation of the resin layer from the substrate, resulting in loose or flaking sections of the floor.

Cracking or Chipping: Resin floors can develop cracks or chips due to heavy impact, temperature fluctuations, or improper installation.

Uneven Surface or Poor Levelling: Improper levelling during the installation process can lead to an uneven surface, which affects both the aesthetics and functionality of the floor.

Moisture or Water Intrusion: If the resin floor is not properly sealed or if there are underlying moisture issues, water intrusion can occur, leading to bubbling, blistering, or other forms of damage.
Pinholes, bubbles, and craters can occur when porous concrete subbases interact with the thermoset curing phase of applied resin, trapping air that is released from the substrate. Unfortunately, there is currently no standardised method for testing subbases for outgassing or excessive air flow. However, we recommend a basic water test where you can pour a 5-litre bucket of water onto an isolated area and observe if any air bubbles become apparent.

To prevent these issues, we advise double priming the surface. This process helps to minimise porosity, resulting in a more solid surface that is suitable for the application of resins. By reducing the risk and characteristics of craters, pinholes, and bubbles, you can achieve a smoother and more visually appealing final result.
